The LDI campaign started in Washington, D.C., with a visit to Dr. Joseph Gebeily’s office. Dr. Hourani discussed the Initiative with Dr. Gebeily and highlighted the importance of supporting the LDI among the Lebanese community members and on Capitol Hill. She later met with Director of DC political consultancy Global Policy Advisors- GPA and Adjunct Professor at University of Maryland School of Government & Politics Mr. Firas Maksad with whom she had a constructive conversation about promoting the Initiative on Capitol Hill and within the American administration. Dr. Hourani also visited Los Angeles to promote the Initiative. Her trip was made possible with the help of Mr. Gustav Cordahi, LERC Liaison Officer for Florida, who put Dr. Hourani in touch with Mr. Salim Hage and Mr. Mazen Cattan in Los Angeles; the latter organized meetings with several prominent Lebanese-American business, political, religious, and intellectual figures in Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, Dr. Hourani also met with the President of the Apostolate of Maronites- NAM, Co-founder of the International Maronite Foundation, and member of the American-Lebanese Medical Association (ALMA), Dr. Elie Ayoub, in the presence of Lebanese-American businessmen Mr. Toni Ayoub and Mr. Salim Hage. Dr. Ayoub commended NDU for taking on such a noble project, expressed his support for the Initiative and promised to encourage members of both the NAM and the ALMA to sign the petition and endorse the objectives of the Initiatives.
