THE HONORABLE ALI OSSEIRAN, MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT

Ali Osseiran is a member of the Advisory Committee of Notre Dame University-Louaize’s (NDU) Lebanon Dialogue Initiative (LDI). He was born on August 6, 1947, in Lebanon’s Sidon to a prominent politician, former Minister and Parliament Speaker Adel Osseiran. He is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Economic and Political Sciences from the University of Maryland, USA. From 1992 till 1995, he served as Minister of State in former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri’s government under the Presidency of Elias Hrawi. He was also elected as an MP representing South Lebanon’s Zahrani district in 1992, a position that he still holds to this day. In 1983, he participated alongside his father Adel in a meeting of representatives from the major Lebanese factions in Geneva for a national dialogue conference, and a year after that, they both attended the Lausanne Conference for Peace. His father and he were also present in Taif, Saudi Arabia, where the Taif Agreement was reached in 1989 to put an end to the Civil War. Moreover, Mr. Osseiran is active in the civil society with regard to several social and environmental issues. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Lebanese Association of SOS Children’s Villages and is the Honorary President of the Al-Ansar Sporting Club. He has wide expertise in the field of agriculture, and is a prominent environmental activist. He is a member of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL) and he strictly opposes hunting. He is married to Sarah Agha, and has four children: Zeina, Adel, Salem, and Souad.
